Editorial Policy
This policy outlines the standards we apply to all content published on OzLottoVault. It governs research, writing, fact-checking, and updates. Our goal is to be transparent about how we work so that readers can evaluate our content on its merits.
Research standards
Every article begins with a review of relevant academic literature, government publications, and established educational resources. Our writers hold qualifications in statistics, mathematics, or science communication, and bring subject-matter expertise to each piece.
We do not rely on a single source for any claim. Where we cite a specific figure (such as the number of combinations in a game), we verify it against the mathematical formula and, where available, the official game rules published by the operator.
What counts as a source
We prioritise the following types of sources:
- Government publications: Australian Bureau of Statistics, state and territory regulators, Productivity Commission reports
- Academic research: Peer-reviewed papers, university-published course materials, established textbooks
- Official operator disclosures: Published game rules, odds tables, and prize structures from licensed operators
- Reputable educational platforms: Khan Academy, Encyclopaedia Britannica, and equivalent institutions
We do not cite anonymous forums, social media posts, or other lottery "tip" websites as authoritative sources.
Fact-checking process
- Author verification: The writer verifies all claims and calculations during drafting.
- Editorial review: A second team member reviews the article for accuracy, clarity, and adherence to this policy.
- Source audit: All cited sources are checked for accessibility and relevance before publication.
- Post-publication monitoring: Published articles are periodically reviewed for currency. When a source becomes unavailable or a figure changes, we update the article and note the modification date.
Update cadence
We aim to review each article at least once every six months. If a significant change occurs (such as a game format modification or a relevant new study), we update the affected article promptly. Every article displays both its original publication date and its most recent modification date.
Corrections
If we identify an error — or if a reader reports one — we investigate and correct it. Substantive corrections (those affecting the meaning or accuracy of a claim) are noted in the article. Minor corrections (typographical, formatting) are made without separate notation.
To report an error, contact us at hello@ozlottovault.com.
Independence
OzLottoVault is editorially independent. We do not accept payment, sponsorship, or in-kind contributions from lottery operators, gambling companies, or related entities. Our content is not influenced by any commercial relationship.
Tone and language
We write in a neutral, analytical tone. We avoid hype, sensationalism, and promotional language. We do not use phrases like "guaranteed wins", "best lotto", "top jackpots", or similar. Our goal is to inform, not to encourage or discourage participation — that decision belongs to the reader.
